Marlice van Vuuren grew up surrounded by animals on her parents' farm in Namibia where for more than
30 years injured or orphaned animals have found refuge. Marlice also grew up closely with the Bushman
community and is one of only a handful of white people who can speak their language.
Marlice has been working with animals in film productions since the age of 13 and has worked on a number
of well know movies with various celebrities. She starred in a documentary about her life
"Marlice - A Vision for Africa: A film by Philip Selkirk" in 2008.
See Marlice's portfolio.
Marlice has passion, intuition and a boundless commitment to the protection of human and animal life
in Namibia and has become one of Namibia's most popular wildlife conservationists.
Marlice married Dr. Rudie Van Vuuren in December 2000 and on 2 December 2006 their little boy Zacheo
was born.
In 2003, Marlice and Rudie, along with their pharmacist friend, Christ Heunis and Jan ver Burg opened
the Lifeline Clinic at Epukiro
where the Bushman community can be treated free of charge.
In 2004, Marlice and Rudie bought the farm Ovuuyo, 42 km outside of Windhoek to establish their own
animal reserve and gave it the name N/a’an ku sê which means God will protect us.
N/a’an ku sê Charity Lodge &
Wildlife Sanctuary started in 2007. The Sanctuary
accommodates mostly orphaned and injured animals that cannot be put back into the wild. They have also
started several exciting new projects including the
Carnivore Research Project to help conserve big cats and a school for the
Bushman children on the farm.
Together, Marlice and Rudie strive both for the preservation of animal species and for the culture of
the country's original inhabitants.
